A close encounter with death: A shooting in Toronto!

photo cred: searchingtoronto.com

I normally don’t post on Saturdays, but this crazy thing happened today in downtown Toronto…

So feeling a bit hungry after work today, I had planned on going to the nearby Toronto Eaton Centre food court to grab some food, but decided last minute to grab a drink at Starbucks instead (later I discovered that I was lucky that I was craving a chai latte!).

After leaving Starbucks, I saw people running past me in the mall.

“Why are you guys running?!” someone shouted, but the runners didn’t stop, and continued running outside the mall. Most people looked confused; some continued shopping.

It wasn’t until I reached the subway, when I was told by some girls walking by that it had been closed off due to a shooting.

“Wait, what shooting? Where was it?”

But none of them knew. They were told by someone else in passing as well.

Above ground, there were cops everywhere, people were in chaos, and sirens wailed.

Since the transit was all closed up in the downtown core, I ended up walking about 30 minutes to catch a subway home. It wasn’t until I was home, when I read about it in detail on CBC News. Apparently, there had been a shooting in the food court (just when I got off work!), several shots were fired, one man died, and a few others were injured… I still can’t believe it!
