The other weekend, I took a trip to Prague. Or “Praha” as it’s officially called. Or my favourite, “Prahahahaha”…the extra “hahaha’s” are for all the fun you’re going to have when you’re there.
I don’t know much about Prague other than the fact that it has a nice castle, but when me and the bf discovered an amazing round trip train deal from Regensburg to Prague for 43 euros, so it was all “hello, Eastern Europe!”
Except it wasn’t really. Well the Czech Republic is in Eastern Europe of course, but Prague felt as classy as any other large city in Western Europe. The buildings are as grand as the ones in Paris, the castle is perhaps better than the ones I’ve seen in Germany, and while 1 euro equals about 25 Czech coruna, which seems like a lot, the prices are pretty much on par with most of Western Europe (ok well the beer is cheaper).
I guess my only complaint would be Czech food, which seems to contain a lot of sausages. But then again, they were influenced by the Germans for so long, I can’t blame them (says the girl whose German university serves sausages everyday for lunch).

On the first night, we stayed at a St. Christopher’s, and when the receptionist told us that our room was called “your room”, I thought I had misunderstood him through his accent, but as it turned out….
The other two nights, we stayed at a hostel called “Hostel Central,” which if any of you are on a budget, should definitely try out! For just 4 euros a night, it’s very clean (although atmosphere wise, somehow no one else there seemed to be under the age of 40).
It seems like almost everywhere you go in Prague, they seem to really boost about a very special man. I’ll give you a hint…
And when you walk around Prague, and you begin to notice all the cool little surreal elements that makes Prague…Prague, that it totally makes sense that Kafka is from this city.
Things you might find include:
An upside down horse statue!
Loopy flower arrangements in cafes!
Bars that look like caves!
Books by Jane Austen…ova?
And of course after a shot (or two) of absinthe from the Chapeau Rouge…
A salesman turning into a cockroach seems like just another ordinary day in Prague.
If absinthe isn’t your thing (which I’ve discover it isn’t), one thing I’d totally recommend is the “Prague Beer Museum Pub.” It’s a micro-brewery which offers 30 beers on tap….and beers start from just 1 euro! You can get a taster tray with 5 beers that look like this:
They offer lots of interesting ones, like strawberry, cherry, honey, and my favourite, blueberry beer!

Words can’t describe how much I love visiting Prague. It’s definitely my favourite European city :-). I’ve been to all places you mentioned in your post and I absolutely loved it. What was your favourite Czech food? I loved trdelnik π
I’ve never had trdelnik! But haha I just googled it and it does look good! Is it sweet? I find czech food very similar to German food actually. One of my favs is actually the sausages they have hahaha

What a cool city! I’ve been desperate to go to Prague for ages, so I hope I’ll get the chance to go soon. Your pretty pictures are giving me major travel envy. π

Coming from Western Europe, I only discovered Eastern Europe rather late. But it’s definitely the more fascinating, often even the more beautiful part of Europe!
Yea, I think you’re right! I’ve never really thought about going to Eastern Europe until now that I’m living in Bavaria, and all those countries seem so close! I already have some trips to Bratislava and Budapest book now for right after the New Year! Can’t wait! π
I simply love Prague. Definitely one of the most amazing and historical places in Europe. I’ve been there at least 3 times and saw all the places you have been to! I’m glad you had a nice and pleasant stay with some Czech beers :D. Wow, they are super cheap by the way!
Wow 3 times! π Yea I loved it there too and will def go back a few more times, especially since it’s so close by! And they really are! π And all this time I thought beer was cheap in Germany….hahaha
