There are lots of truly fantastic luxury casinos in Monte Carlo, as befits the resort’s status as one of the premier casino gaming destinations in the world. However some of them do not date back that far and thus do not offer that much historic interest – even if there is no disputing the quality of the gaming they offer. However one casino which does posses a somewhat longer history is the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Casino, which was originally opened back in 1929, and which is the property of the Societe des bains de mer de Monaco.

This company owns many of the major buildings in Monte Carlo, including the Opera de Monte Carlo and another casino which offers one of the biggest rivals to the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel and Casino – the Monte Carlo Casino. This is undoubtedly the casino that possesses the most historic interest of all those in Monte Carlo, as it was originally built back in the 19th century, making it the oldest casino in the resort. It was the brainchild of Princess Caroline of Monaco and had several managers in its earliest days, but began to emerge as a focal point of Monte Carlo following its redesign by Charles Garnier in 1879.

This saw the gaming rooms significantly expanded, as well as the addition of a hall for holding concerts – which was the first step towards becoming a wider entertainment venue, not simply a casino. It does still offer all the games like those at www.jackpotcity.co.uk. Nowadays the Monte Carlo casino features many forms of entertainment, as well as offering all of the major casino games, and it has become part of popular culture – thanks to its use in several James Bond films. If you are looking to visit a casino in this resort which has real history attached to it then this should be your first port of call.

The second I saw the title to this post I immediately said, “James Bond movies…!” I live in a gambling city so it wouldn’t interest me for those reasons. But, I would absolutely be interested in checking out because of the history and seeing in the movies! Good post, Paul :)
